Several years ago, my mother approached the pastor of her church, telling him that the church needed an afternoon bible study for those who are retired and do not like to be out late at night. The pastor thought it was a good idea and asked her when she would like to start. She responded that she most certainly did not want to lead the group but was just offering her suggestion. However, the pastor would not relent, and my mother, with much hesitation, agreed to lead the Bible study group that would come to be known as Tuesday at Two (TUE@TWO).
My mother would be the first to admit that she did not feel qualified or adequate to lead a Bible study, yet each week she would pray, and God would always give her something to share to encourage those attending her group. Over the years, TUE@TWO became one of the mainstays of her church. Through it all, she taught me a valuable lesson. Our abilities are not as important to God as our availability. God can make us able, but only we can make ourselves available. My mom, even though she did not think of herself as able, nevertheless offered her availability to God, and God used that availability to minister to others every TUE@TWO.
This past Christmas morning, my mom went home to be with the Lord. To honor her and what she meant to TUE@TWO, the group created the mug pictured above. I am privileged to have one of these mugs. It is a constant reminder to me to offer my availability to God, even when I do not feel adequate, for God is able to make me able.

I am not retired but started attending Tuesday @ Two in the very beginning, on my lunch time, when we were meeting via Zoom! My family had just received devastating news and I desperately needed to be with people of faith. Through this weekly meeting I came to know Joanie personally and quickly realized how much we were alike. She often referred to me as her twin and I loved that. I miss her dearly! We even had several opportunities to share meals and Bible discussions with Robi & Joanie and I cherish those memories! Joanie’s epiphany each week became a constant encouragement and we would think “what will it be this week!”. The Lord was always faithful to speak to her sometimes down to the last minute and even when her she was not feeling the best. Her wit always added a smile or laugh to us as she would share. I always loved her open honesty and love about herself and her faith.
There have been several times I have said “yes” to be available, to do something I wasn’t sure I could. Like, almost all that I have done for service and ministry!! From leading youth group, organizing work camps, leading a support group for abused women, mission trips to Africa, directin…
Joani's statement about God having good things planned for which we have never imagined is so true. As David said, she did not feel qualified nor interested in leading anything, let alone the Word of God to church people, but God did know. With God, she was more than able. As she continued week after week with her "epiphany" which she attributed to God, her desire was for others to receive the same joy she received from God in doing this by stepping out and letting God, He is more than able. Quoting David in this blog she would confirm, "even when I do not feel adequate, for God is able to make me able."
So simple and so true. If it’s true that God has good things planned for us that we have never imagined, then we better take the opportunities He brings whether they make sense to us or not. He is able!
